| | What is the « Eclosion Prize »? «Preach by the example» is the vocation of the «Eclosion Prize», by bringing recognition, visibility and support to the award-winner.
The winner of this prize will be provided with both support and an environment suitable to the development of a start-up. The jury is composed of leading academics and industrialists, who will give guidance and support to the winner over the course of one year. The goal of this support is to bring about the creation of a company, wich would benefit from access to the large professional resources of Eclosion, the Geneva-based life science incubator. In 2006, the recipient of the Eclosion prize was Dr. Paolo Botti, who benefitted from the collaboration with Eclosion in founding his company, Arisgen.
Call for applications
Each project leader interested in submitting his/her ideas to the jury of the Eclosion Prize is kindly requested to apply before the end of August 2010 via the BioInnovation Day’s web site (www.bioinnovation.ch). A brief presentation of your project (maximum of two A4 pages) is required. Selection Process The scientific committee will select a short-list of the most promising projects submitted via the BioInnovation Day website. The selected candidates will be invited to present their project to the Jury in October 2010 (exact date to be determined). These 30-minute project presentations will be evaluated according to their viability and their economic interests in terms of value and job creation. The jury will announce the winner and award the «Eclosion Prize» at the end of BioInnovation Day on November 2nd 2010. Jury

- Prof. Ann Kato, Department of fundamental Neurosciences, University of Geneva.;

- Dr. Daniel Littman, Analyst, Eclosion SA.
Conditions for candidature
Candidates shall submit innovative projects in the life sciences sector, in particular in the biotech, medtech or pharmaceutical areas. The Eclosion prize targets in particular young researchers and entrepreneurs, coming from universities, research institutions, specialized high schools and companies, eager to launch their start-up or spin-off. Candidates will also have to show a commitment to setting-up the start-up company in the Lake Geneva region.
Criteria for success Projects will be evaluated according to the following criteria: - Originality and quality of the project and its innovative aspects;
- Market potential;
- Consumer benefit;
- Development stage of the project and/or the product;
- Added value that Eclosion can bring in the start-up process.
The last winner: Dr. Stephan Hailfinger (Prof. Margot Thome lab, UNIL) Doctor Stephan Hailfinger is a Molecular Biologist working in the research group of Prof. Margot Thome-Miazza. Her research has led to the identification of the proteolytic activity of MALT1. The activity of this protein is a key effector of the NF-κB pathway, implicated in the development and malignancy of ABC-DLBCL lymphoma.
After winnig the 2009 Eclosion Prize, Dr. Hailfinger and Prof. Thome have worked with Eclosion to define the requirements necessary to develop their research into a biotech company.
